Celebrating St. John the Evangelist: A Joyful Christmas Tradition
|
![]() |
As we continue to rejoice in the Christmas season, we warmly invite our parish family to celebrate the Feast of St. John the Evangelist on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the patron saint of our parish.
St. John holds a special place in the life of the Church as the beloved disciple and the author of the Gospel that proclaims, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” One cherished tradition associated with St. John is the Blessing of Wine. According to ancient Christian tradition, St. John was served poisoned wine, but he survived because he blessed it before he put it to his lips. The poison then rose from the chalice in the shape of a serpent. Since then, the Church has continued this blessing as a sign of God’s protection, friendship, and joy.
In honor of St. John, we will celebrate this beautiful tradition with the Blessing of Wine at the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Everyone is encouraged to bring a bottle of wine to be blessed (no liquor please). Blessed wine may be enjoyed later at special occasions throughout the year—family celebrations, anniversaries, holidays, or moments of thanksgiving.
Following Mass, the celebration continues in Claretian Hall with a shared meal, fellowship, and Christmas cheer. This gathering is a wonderful way to extend the joy of Christ’s birth and come together as a parish family to honor our patron saint.
